Evan Almighty

The Popular Culture class has just ruined my ability to sit down and watch tv or a movie without thinking about it.

Has anyone seen Evan Almighty? It stars Steve Carell and is basically like the story of Noah and the Ark. God tells Steve that he must build an ark and that he is going to flood the earth. Steve doesn't want to build the ark at first but God keeps on delivering the needed materials. Eventually, Steve's job and families have been effected and he gives in to God. His life is in turmoil, but he does God's Will. It's really a cute movie and perfect for the entire family. I'm so glad that someone was able to make a humorous movie about submitting to God's Will without poking fun at God.

A++++

Carrie Underwood - the 4th or 5th American Idol has a new boyfriend. She has been spotted smooching Chance Crawford of "Gossip Girl." Chance is 22 compared to her mature 24. Sources say that they met when he introduced himself to her at a celebrity hot-spot Hyde. Sources also say that they have been keeping their romance hush-hush since July.

Finally!!! Some good news from Hollywood!!!

When it rains it poors

I'm in a popular culture class and Dr. T has challenged us to think about why we care about celebrities. We don't know them. They aren't our friends. That question has been on my heart.

Britney has been the topic of my other blogs and I think I'll continue with her. She has recently had to turn over custody of her children to K-Fed. She then went tanning. One article in last weeks US Weekly indicated that she is on a downward spiral and could easily be headed toward suicide. Even if you don't like Britney, even if you think she can't sing, dance, or act, she is still a person. She is still one of God's creations and she is in a bad spot in her life. Have you that are reading this never been in a bad place? Have you never made mistakes and continued down the wrong path simply because you didn't know how to stop? I have and it stinks. What's worse is that Britney is famous and her every move is publicized. Everyone is watching but who is helping? Forget about her celebrity status. This is a young girl, in a very harsh industry, that has lost her children, her husband, and her family. Why do I care about Britney? I care because she's a person. I pray that God will give her strength to make it through this devestating time. I pray that God will guide her back onto a Christian path. I pray that God will protect her children. I don't care if she ever makes another record, video, or movie. But I would hate to read about a suidice in a few months.

As Dr. T challenged us, I challenge you that read this - pray for this person to get back with God.

The Bachelor

Watched on channel 9 on 09/24/07.

Last night was the season premier of a hit reality show called The Bachelor. I've never watched this particular show. I prefer Beauty and the Geek as my dating show. I did however, watch The Bachelor for the first time last night. I know that this reality series has been on for several years. The purpose of this show is to bring in 1 man and about 25 unrealistically beautiful women. The man is suppose to narrow down the women by giving those that he wants to keep a rose. The ultimate goal is for this man to find a wife. In my opinion, it seems almost impossible to find your future soul-mate on a reality series. That's just my opinion - yes, I am aware that the first seasons Trista & Ryan are still married, but they were also paid so freakish amount to get married within a specific time period and their wedding was paid for. As I watched the show last night, I noticed certain women - one got drunk before getting her "alone" time, one claimed that being on the show was a "divine intervention," one showed off her webbed toes, one asked the man to take off his pants, and one twisted in a way that makes me hurt. This show continues to come back season after season because people - a lot of people - like the show. I'm sure men like idea of being surrounded by beautiful women and having their pick. I'm sure women like the idea of meeting their prince charming. It really wasn't that bad - just not my taste. I'll continue to watch the show for this pop culture class. Who knows, maybe I'll become addicted to it too.

God Responded

Have you heard about the guy that is suing God? I hadn't until last night. Tonight, I found that God has responded to the lawsuit.

Per Yahoo News: State Sen. Ernie Chambers of Omaha sued God last week, seeking a permanent injunction against the Almighty for making terroristic threats, inspiring fear and causing "widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth's inhabitants."

Clerk of the Douglas County Court, John Friend, has been quoted as saying "This one just miraculously appeared on the counter.." Friend is referring to a response from God addressing the lawsuit filed by Chambers.

According to Friend, God's response indicates that "I created man and woman with free will and next to the promise of immortal life, free will is my greatest gift to you."

Believer or not, how silly have we gotten. I personally find these typese of lawsuits to be a waste of time, court resources, and on the verge of being sinful. Attorneys could be out trying to prosecute a rapist, murderer, etc. but is instead being bogged down. Unfortunately, Sen. Chambers is not the one filing silly lawsuits. This practice has been an industry within itself. However, I give a great big SHAME ON YOU to Sen. Chambers as he is in an authoritative position is this is just silly.

Britney Spears

Poor Britney....I want to root for her, I really do but she just can't seem to get her act together.

I just read an article that indicated that she will be forced to take drug and alcohol twice a week. She shaved her head in February, went to rehab, is going through a divorce, on the verge of losing her kids, and just can't seem to stop partying all night long. Twice there's been an incident of her being caught pantyless. I guess on top of everything else, she can't keep her legs closed. Is anyone other than me tired of hearing about her? Honestly, I don't care about her career but it does break my heart for those poor boys and the example that they are being exposed to. I ask myself - is she being the Christian mother that the Bible describes and the answer is NO.
